China to ban free plastic bags

From 1 June 2008 stores in China will stop handing out free flimsy plastic carrier bags and will charge for other plastic bags.
With a population of 1.3 billion, China is reported to be the world’s largest user of plastic carrier bags.

Malvern has also recently launched a campaign to ban the plastic bag.
