Shopping more responsibly than ever
8 July 2008
Great to read in the news this week a positive story about our shopping trends. Yes it’s official, we really do care about what we buy and where it comes from. According to the IGD, 41% of Brits take at least one ethical issue into consideration when shopping and we are much more likely to buy Fairtrade than our European counterparts. So, despite the credit crunch, it’s still looking good for ethical independent retailers.
We strongly believe in supporting the retailers that instigated this change in our shopping habits and that are fundamental to the uniqueness of our communities. Bags of Change member retailers are some of the best ethical independent shops around – and they give you up to 10% off Fairtrade, organic, sustainable and local goods when you shop with the Bag.
So, tell us, are you one of the 41%? What’s in your shopping bag today?

Government plans to reduce plastic bags by 12 billion
18 March 2008
In last week’s Budget, Alistair Darling stated that the Government would bring in legislation in 2009 to reduce the number of plastic bags in use by 12 billion – unless companies cut usage themselves. Bags of Change supports the Chancellor’s efforts but why not a complete ban and why not now?!
